Has anyone else seen a rash of deck fire recently that just happen to start the house on fire? There has been 5 in the last 10 days in my area. We had one last week and have mutual aided on 2 others in the town to our west. I saw on the tube about 2 others the other night. Has anyone else around the country seen an increase in deck fires/house fires?

Nope, but it sounds like you have an arsonist among you.

Could the mulch around the deck have started the fire?

Did anyone search the deck, or did the bystanders tell them that nobody was on the deck?

We have not yet recieved an offical report as of yet on the fires from the state fire marshal. But seems unusal that all happen late night or early morning. They have all happened within a 20 mile area within the 10 days. Just seems very unusual for that many fires all starting on the deck.

Deck fires occur about the rate of one or two every week. Folks with big decks grill out and don't pay attention to the grill after they have gone back into the house to eat. The ashes or fire drops out to the cheapo grills and set the deck on fire. Or another cause is the folks take the ashes out from the fire place in the cold weather and put them in a bag or plastic bucket on the deck. DUH!!!

Aw.. What the hell... C'mon... Lets not make it a contest about whos got the biggest deck.
As long as we're telling deck stories... The other mornin', I heard this noise. I look. I had a racoon gnawing on my deck.Firefighter/EMT
