That kinda surprises me, what’s the population? I actually use to go down there a lot as all my x’s family was from Benton and West Frankfort, haven’t been in years but still have some friends there.

not positive on population but the 2000 census said 6880 , so it is probably pretty close to that

The Benton Fire Department is a combination department of 6 Career Firefighters, 1 Chief, and 15 Paid-on-Call Firefighters. There is 1 station which responds to all fire calls within city limits and automatic mutual aid for 2 departments. It is a fire only house with 1 1995 Seagrave 2000 pump/2000 tank pumper/tanker, 1 2006 Crimson Rear Mount Pumper/ Heavy Rescue, 1 1986 Towers 55 ft Aerial, and a 1976 Seagrave reserve pumper. In 2008, there were approx 250 calls.
The Benton Fire Dept. will likely have 2 positions with the possibility of 3 open to hire from this list. The starting salary for 2009 is 38,089.48. Applications can be picked up at the Benton City Hall until June 3.

250 calls in 365 days for almost 40K.... sounds like a cake job to me. I can't believe they don't try to expand their poc base before they hire full time.

Question about Benton
Is there a residency requirement? Do you know what physical test is used? Are extra points given for EMT or Paramedic? Thanks!

I'm going to say no to the extra points as previously stated they are a fire-only house and do not run any medicals.
