    Default Budget section on AFG

We are going to offer more than the 5% matching funds required on the AFG grant. We are going to offer an additional 15%, for a total of 20%. How do you fill in the blanks on the computer portion, or do you just state it in your narrative? Many thanks

Ask for less in the project, then state that you did that in the narrative so they understand that you are overmatching.

Adding to what BC79er said, if you reduce the amount the computer "sees" you are more likely to get past it. The computer "sees" that you are more competitive because you are asking for less compared to similar projects, so it is more likely not to check your DJ box. The peer reviewers will prolly be impresses that you are extremely committed to this project. Just be careful, because if you start to match too much, they might wonder why you are not able to fun this now on your own.

Thanks for the tips. We are going to add an additional 15% for a total of 20%. Hopefully that is not to much.

    Default Increased Match

The main thing is to justify the extra match! Tell why this project deserves the extra cash commitment locally, discuss how it (the extra cash match) will not negatively effect daily operations or put your department in a potential financial bind (financial reserves), and how the extra funds became available (saved and scrimped the past two years, or found ways to reduce other costs in order to focus on this need, got our local officials to cough it up, etc).

Succinct details always impress peer reviewers.
