Hose Question
Does anyone know for sure what makes some hose, such as Ponn Conquest or Jaffline/ATI 800 HD so stiff and difficult to pack. Is it the coating, or is it the liner?
My Volly Dept. has some of both, in 50' lengths. It stays "puffy" when packed in pre-connects and flat lays. My Career Dept. has the Conquest in 75' lengths. Like working with pipe. Puffy too.

Yes, it is the liner. I spoke with Snap-tite, the Conquest manufacture, at FDIC last week and they know of the problem and have a new liner for the conquest line that solves the issues of puffy packing.
The down side is it wont be available until late winter or next spring.

We have the same issue with the "puffy packing" , it does get better with use and time. The first batch we got is finally broken in and it packs fine , but the new batch we got in January is a real bear to get laying flat and looking decent.

In ATI try the Jafline (vs Jafline HD) packs very flat. Thermoplastic liner vs rubber.

Puffy packing might be a problem but the "through the weave liner" makes it worth it.
All our 1 3/4" is Ponn Conquest. On the 1 3/4" running the numbers backwards we ended up with a coefficient of 6 versus the traditional 15.5. Same water lower pressure.
The best way to get rid of the puffyness is to work it. Pull the line, flow the line then repack it. Works for us. If we get a new section we load it on the bottom (hoping the weight of the other hose will take the "puff" out.

Thanks to all for your replies.
So, is safe to assume that the stiffness and puffyness is from the liner - not any type of coating on the outer jacket?

It's the type of material that the outer jacket is made of. Years back we went to 100% man made fabric. It was stiff and unruley to pack on the apparatus. We finally took it and laid it out several times during drill to get the fabic relax and it worked better.
All new hose line needs to exercise alot to make it more easy to roll, pack and use.
