Default Hose and Appliance Replacement Standards?

Are there standards for replacement of hose and adapters? We are trying to replace old cotton hose and brass appliances.

NFPA 1961 "Standard on Fire Hose" states that "....fire departments should give careful consideration to a 10-year maximum service life under normal operating conditions". As far as appliances I am not aware of a service life.

Could make a good case that Storz appliances that do not have locks on the couplings should be replaced for safety reasons.
