That's because the rest of my fellow subjects of the Commonwealth are too busy yapping on their damned cell phones and texting each other while driving Mach 3 down the highway.

95, I don't think I have ever seen a solid yellow light, only flashing or the yellow between green and red. I guess missing 1 isn't too bad.

I'm going with Toronto. I absolutely wanted to shoot myself when the wife and I were up there last year. 12:30 am and I hit a traffic jam driving into the city..... Construction all over on the QEW too. I never want to go back there again. Cept for the HHOF. That's the only way I'd go back again. Got to touch the Cup!!!!!

Hey Andy, you know that you can mostly avoid TO by heading up 427 from Hamilton which (with a bit of work) will lead you up towards Barrie.... and Base Borden. There's usually beer in the fridge too. heehehehee

Actually an easier way to avoid TO is to come west to Alberta and also avoid all of Ontario too. Truly Gods Country here!

Actually, no. God's Country is about 14 hrs WEST of Calgary, but in general principle, I will agree, when in comparison to Toronto, or Ontrario.

Gotta admit Rick that Sydney, Nanaimo and especially Parksville area are truly a wonder. If you could just get a govt that didn't tax you at about 103% it would be great. Maybe see if Ralph would move out there.

Rick, I'll have to remember that. It's gonna be some time before I'm back up that way. Mabie once my son is old enough to really understand what the Stanley Cup means. I've already got him screaming "Go Red Wings!" just to **** off my friends who are Pens fans. Then it will be time for another trip back to the Great White North.

BTW, I'm glad to hear that the beers cold, but isn't Guinness supposed to be served warm? As for me, the new house will have a full beer fridge in the garage soon enough.....

OK I am sorry but I have to comment. I did a paper on this very subject in Theoretical Statistics many years ago in college. As it is correct that American drivers are statistically worse than anywhere else in the world it is not the entire truth. Here in the US accidents are first off reported. Other countries such as India crashes are not reported and if they are the crash is not documented. The US reports everything. Don't forget about HFIRS and the police version of it as well. Next, you you look at the shear number of crashes, the figures are extremely misleading. Believe it or not there are more cars sold in the US every year than are owned in the entire country of Thailand. Other factors are the laws in the US. Anyone in the US can get a driver's license and own a car as long as they are over 16 (owning a car requires at least 18). If I recall, I will try and find my paper, it is Germany where you are not allowed to get a license until you are either 21 or 25. Also one day take a drive down any certain road and try and count the number of roadsigns that you encounter. I bet in a 30 mile stretch you will stop counting around 150. Again I will need to find my paper to confirm this but I believe it is Spain that limits the number of road signs and they only places signs that are absolutely necessary. Plus look at the number of distraction that businesses throw at drivers in the US. They do everything they can to pull your eyes from the road instead of paying attention to where you are going. There are other leading factors to driving conditions in the US than other countries such as public transportation. Think about it. How would someone that lives 20 miles from town get to work in the US if it were not for an automobile? In England or Japan they simply hop a train.

I could go on and on about the problems in the US and some are motorist but most in my research are factors that have to do with government and business. I also would like for everyone to keep in mind the owner of this study, GMAC. Do you think there is some ulterior motive for them on this study? Does big business spend money on things like this if there is not a return on investment?

Cappy, just wondering for the sake of interest/conversation, but how many other countries have you visited and or driven in, besides the US. Again, not meaning disrespect or insult, just curious.

    Thumbs up Yep!!...........

AMEN to the "Roadside Distractions" Anne Arundel County, Maryland, has banned Signs with Flashing or Moving Lights for Roadside Businesses. Currently, they are looking at more stringent sign licencing requirements, Minimum Setback distances, and other things to reduce "Visual Clutter" and improve safety................

Non taken i can understand the question. As for driven in other countries, none, as for being a passenger in other countries 2, 3 if you include Tijuana as a different part of Mexico (Boy was that fun!!!). My information came more from statistical and raw data research and other documentation which are too numerous to list here and can't really remember given it was several years ago.

And I would also like to say I am not an expert on this. I simply did a research paper on this subject. It interested me because when I was 16 I went to Germany with my brother and noticed a stark difference in everything. I have to admit, thinking back I felt safer on the roads over there.

AHAHAHAAAA. I found this on another website offering a drivers test. This was one of the questions:

    INTERNATIONAL DRIVING LAWS
    QUESTION 22:
In the American state of Alabama, a motorist must not do this:

    a) Drive with a blindfold on.
    b) Wear a cowboy hat.
    c) Use the left lane as a passing lane.
    d) Coast with gears or transmission in neutral, or clutch disengaged.

    d) In the state of Alabama, the law states that a driver travelling on a downgrade must not coast with their gears or transmission in neutral, or clutch disengaged.

    ANSWER:

(and I go this one wrong! I was undecided between A and B)

    d) In the state of Alabama, the law states that a driver travelling on a downgrade must not coast with their gears or transmission in neutral, or clutch disengaged.
