I'm doing some research on self-rescue kits that are available or custom made kits. Where I'm at the biggest we get is 3 stories like motels and such, if we get requested downtown then were talking bigger like 6 and 7 stories. Some guys tell me they are a waste because I'd never use it, but I if I needed it I'd really like it have it instead of regretting it later on. So what do you guys use? Likes/dislike? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance for the help/advice.

We are currently being trained on the EXO system with a full seat harness. I will let you know how it goes when I go thru it. Now my cousins dept just got the EXO system with the Gut Belt. They love it and have had no problems with it. The system consist of a hook and 50' of rope with a self locking decender. Seems to work great for the guys that have used it.

I've read about the EXO system and watched Petzl's video and I agree it looks like a very good system that would work well. The downfall to it is the price tag pretty spendy right at $400.

When youre eight stories up, I have a feeling you will concerned with getting down to a window on a non-fire floor and breaching it. 80 ft. is a long rappel from a personal escape kit.
That being said, I am comfortable comming out a window 50 ft. from the ground with nothing but a rope and something to anchor it to.

Most of the guys in my area use a bener to hook into something as an anchor, hook into their belt with a second bener, then do 3 wraps as a knotless knot and go out the window that way. Seems pretty quick and easy.
