Fire Inspector Jobs

I was a Federal Firefighter for 3 1/2 years and now I'm getting close to 20 years as a County firefighter as a Lieutenant. I just Retired from the Air Force Reserve as a firefighter so I have all my IFSAC Certs.

My question for all you current Federal Firefighters out there is do you think it would be hard to get rehired as a Fire Inspector at a Base? I'm 50 years old so I can't work on the floor because of the max age 37 rule.

I do have return rights and I am a Vet. So that helps.

Any advise out there?

Most bases require their inspectors to cross-man apparatus, and they even work a 56 hour week. I only know of one on the east coast where inspectors work a 40 hour week.

Your right, but there are a few Army Basses that the Inspectors work 4 10's and Don't ride the trucks. This position is classified as a secondary position.

I also heard that in the future you will see more of these type of positions to save the DOD money.

I work at an Army base in Colorado... most of our inspectors are retired military. They dont X-Man trucks.... they just do inspections.

aren't most inspector jobs still classified as secondary though?

I will be retired AF Reserve Firefighter and a former Fed employee with reinstatement rights.

A lot of Navy Federal Fire Departments the Inspectors work a 56 and ride the trucks after 5 one night a week. As well as Air Force. The Army has Inspectors that work 4 10's at a lot of Forts.

Navy Region NW's inspectors do not ride the trucks. The current inspectors work a 56, but all future new hires will work a 40.

kazmanff thank you for the info. That's what I had heard was going to happen.

Our Inspector's work a 60 hour workweek, and ride the apparatus the whole shift or meet us on scene when they work their 24.
