I'm thinking the same thing. After doing some research the paramedic position is for "paramedic driver", which are fire medics who promote from riding backwards on the engine to driving and functioning as a medic on a rescue under the supervision of a rescue lieutenant. But your probably right, once they promote the fire medics they will replace their positions with recruits they are hiring this go around.

It should be a good size hiring bc all the medics that got hired as emts are gunna want to jump over . So that should leave a good portion of spots that need to be filled .

I think you might be confused on how the promotions work in Tampa.

As far as I know, when hired, you're hired as a Firefighter assigned to an Engine Company. If you are an EMT, you have 3 years to get your Paramedic (F01). There is a pay difference between the two, but it is not a promotion. You can get promoted to be the Rescue Paramedic (F04) which means you would be assigned to the Rescue and no longer the Engine. You can be jerried to the Rescue when manning calls for it, but then you get paid to ride up out of class.

My pre-application packet is due August 30th. I just got the full e-mail about a week ago. Anyone else in the same boat? I think I'm going to hand the packet in person before the due date. If anyone has any information, I'd love to hear it.

A few of us received the packets different dates, mine was due July 19 and still nothing yet. So it has been past a month for me, but from reading older posts on here that is normal.. dont hold your breath, it will take time.

I'm not holding my breath, trust me, been down this road many times. Did you received the same pre-employment 21 page questionnaire as well? They made a mistake when they sent me my packet and sent me someone's information on the dept and when I called them up to get that letter with instructions, they were kinda like why are you calling us? I said how am I suppose to know what to do with this packet with no instructions, addresses, etc? Made me feel very uneasy. Worked hard to get to this point.

So if your title is rescue paramedic and you get floated out to another station, they actually give you "ride up pay" just for working at different station?

Nevermind, ignore that question, I read it wrong. ffwright, your saying you could get bumped from the engine to the rescue for operational purposes and get ride up pay?

Yes. It's a promotional path in Tampa. When you are "bumped" to the Rescue, you are riding out of class and get ride up pay because it is a promotion spot.

Yes I did. Basically said thanks but no thanks. Not sure why, I have 11 years on at a large department and hold the rank of LT. Scores were great and I'm only 32 but oh well at least have a job. Good Luck everyone!!

Yea, I got the same. Two years paid experience. I can pump, work on an aerial, run shuttle ops, Ambulance time, have a few bachelors, Haz-mat, everything short of a medic. Even went down there and handed in my application in person to show my interest. Wish I knew what they wanted. I say good luck to everyone still in the process.

Does Tampa Fire Rescue give any preference to applicants who went to the HCC fire college in Tampa? Or does it not really matter?
