    Default Great Quote

So, I was on the bus, one of the chaperones for the 5th Grade trip to NYC. On the bus, the kids put in the movie, Jumanji. The movie sucked, but there was a great quote by Carl the Police Officer (David Allen Grier).

    I should've been a fireman.

    I agree.

BTW, apparently, McSorley's Ale House is not a popular suggestion for the 5th Grade Field Trip to NYC.

A good number of years ago I was a chaperone for the three day eigth grade trip to DC and Baltimore... My group (all boys) BEGGED me to take them to Hooters for lunch, in Inner Harbor. I figured what the heck, can't hurt (as long as we don't get caught!). So I "sneak" them in there without any of the other parent groups knowing or seeing us (I waited until most headed towards Camden Yards for a tour), and who do we bump into as soon as we get inside? The Middle School Principal, the teacher in-charge of the trip, and three of the five bus drivers, all enjoying lunch and the sights...

The kids gave the Principal a Hooters Tee-shirt at 8th grade graduation a few weeks later.....

BTW, three of the seven kids that I chaperoned that year are now firefighters - one career, two vols, and one of those vols is on a list for a career job! I must have taught them well in those three days!

    Default Another Hooters tale

My old department goes to Louisville Ky for an annual state run fire school and one year,we'd taken our latest 18 year old member who'd just moved up from being a Fire Explorer Scout.
The first night we were there,we all swore a blood oath that "Whatever happens in Louisville,STAYS in Louisville",only one guy spilled the beans to his Mom....
I'm not naming names but not most of us were old enough that we didn't tell our Moms everything we'd do.
We'd gone to Hooters for supper after checking into our various classes to learn where to go the next day and this kid had been face down in his cell phone texting with his girlfriend back home the whole drive from the hotel.
He didn't look up even when we pulled into the parking lot and as the junior full member of the department,I drew the assignment to make sure he didn't walk into an open manhole cover or something, though if it looked like he was going into the ladies' room,I was going to maintain my silence. You have got to amuse yourself somehow.
The whole time we waited for a table,he never looked up but when the waitress came to take our orders, she got irked and tapped him on the shoulder and made him look at her.
He looked up,swiveled his head and his expression was "Got Milk?" when he realized where we were.Being from a small western Kentucky town,he'd never before seen such things in the big city.
A guy who had signed up for a class with this kid mentioned later that fore some reason he seemed distracted the entire weekend.

I liked the eye-opener at Jeremy's Ale House myself. Nothing like being total snockered by 1130 hours in NYC on a weekday. Sometimes I really miss being a College Student.

I met up with a bunch of "Crusties" at Jeremy's after the 9/11 memorial service in NYC in 2002... and got hammered hard!

Well, you failed to state the reason why. I would have did the five year plan in 10th grade if my homeroom teacher looked like this too.
