    Default Is it OK to call HR to ask about status?

    I had a chief's interview about 6 weeks ago. In that interview they said it'll be about 30 days to hear from them. But I know they called one of my references 6 days ago. They said they are hiring a couple initially then another one or two from their lieutenant's hiring process. Now, every weekday I get excited to hear the phone ring :-( I wish I could know the status but I also don't want to be a bugaboo.

    I'd sit tight and continue to wait. You know they're doing something since they recently contacted a reference, so it sounds like you might hear something soon. Being patient is the hardest part.

    The last thing you want is for the people in HR to know who you are. You don’t want to be calling and bugging them. It doesn’t change anything and could hurt your chances. Imagine one of the chiefs comes into HR and asks to look at “BIGBLACKWOMAN”’s file, and the secretary says, “Do you know she has been calling to find out what is taking so long”? You don’t want to be that person.

    Now if you hear from someone that the process is progressing and people have received notices and they haven’t gotten ahold of you, then call. Mistakes are made and if they move on without you, you may not get back in. But I would just call and say I was in the process and what is happening, not ask what is going on with my own scores.

    ha, ok, my original plan was just going to be ONE nice email asking the status of the process but yea i'll just wait.. it's all i can think about though and is the hardest part of the process :-\
