They usually do a list every three years or so. With the way the budget is right now, don't look for them to do anything soon.

saw on metro website they are taking applications for emt/paramedic. i have heard that most people they are hirng in suppression now come from ems and are crosstrained so you have a beter chance of getting hired by suppression if you have worked in ems. just wondering if anybody else has heard this.

For those that applied has any body else scheduled a written test date for next week? Also, just wanted to know how many they plan on hiring if any body knows?

I am scheduled for the written test on Monday. I have not heard one way or the other as far as how many they will be hiring, if any. Word of mouth is that there is not a very high turnover.
We shall see.

I was doing some searching around on the metro web site and ran across a purposed citizens budget for fiscal year 2008-2009. It said they wanted to hire 31 positions to staff 3 new units. I don't know if this is still true or not. If you would like to check it out try this link below. Scroll down to page 23. I am scheduled to take the written test on Tuesday @ 10 am. Also, is this test going to be medical orientated or a general civil service type exam? Good Luck to all.

Good eye, DaTNFireman. I am still curious to know if the test will be book knowledge or human relation based.
The clock is ticking.

Has anyone else been notified that they are on the eligibility roster yet? I got an email yesterday from HR telling me that I had been added but still haven't heard for sure if they even plan to hire this go around.
Anyone heard differently?

It was just a mass email... nothing concrete. A friend of mine who didn't even show up for the exam received the same email. Don't get too excited.

Apply for the better department and come to Memphis.

Management is making sure things are done right. Leadership is doing the right thing. The fire service needs alot more leaders and a lot less managers.
"Everyone goes home" is the mantra for the pussification of the modern, American fire service.
Comments made are my own. They do not represent the official position or opinion of the Fire Department or the City for which I am employed. In fact, they are normally exactly the opposite.

this hiring process was strictly for ems, correct, not suppression. Does anyone know when hey will hire again for suppression and if they are still using the list from 2007. If they renew the list like it says every 3 years then this coming up spring they should retsrat a process. Has anyone heard anything else.

Nothing like reviving an old thread...
Does nashville have fire medics or are you either fire or medic? Also how is the equipment and working conditions?
Thanks

Equipment I am told is much better than in days of yore...
There are medics in suppression.
