There aren't many Volunteer departments anymore as most are slowly going career. Over that way I believe Indialantic Fire Dept. has volunteers, at least they did a few years ago...check into them...

As far as certifications, you at the very least need FFI and EMT-B courses.

I believe the largest Volunteer Dept. in the Central Florida area is Sumter County, but living over in Brevard won't help.

    Best of Luck...

if you find a place to volunteer, they may put you through FF1. emt-b is not a requirement to be a volunteer FF.

There's Malabar Volunteer Fire Department in the Town of Malabar. It is located in the southern end of Brevard County. All you need to be a volunteer with them is FF1 and EMT-Basic.

I should clarify. the state of florida does not require emt to be a volunteer ff. specific dept's may have higher req's.

well Malabar may well require it for their volunteers. I'm guessing it's dept discretion if they want to have higher req's than the state.

    Check with:
Brevard County, Volusia County, City of Flagler Beach, City of Orange City, City of Edgewater, City of Apopka, City of Indian Harbour Beach. A lot of the costal cities and counties do volunteers.

If I were to guess, you'd probably have a hard time getting on somewhere even as a volunteer due to the firefighter-saturated state we live in. There's no jobs, so people are turning to volunteering. In any case, I wish you luck!

Woops. I need to check this forum more often.....
I am a former FF for Indian Harbour Beach Sta. 56. They are 100% volunteer.
In Brevard, you can volunteer for Brevard County Fire, Cape Canaveral Fire, 4 Communities Fire, Indian Harbour Beach Fire, Satellite Beach Fire, Indialantic Fire, Melbourne Beach Fire, and Malabar Fire.
Fla state requires FFI. Your VFD is required to put you through that, if you do not have it.
As far as I know, only IHB, Malabar, 4 Communities, and Mel. Beach do responses, as in you carry a pager, and respond to the station. All others require in station time.
Most also require living close to the station. Where do you live?

    Questions?
    PM me.
