    Default New Draeger SCBAs

Has anyone purchased and received the new Draeger SCBAs? We ordered them awhile ago and have just received them, but they have already been taken out of service and I was wondering if anyone else has had any issues. Thanks!

What issues are you having? Is it a training issue, a software/hardware issue with the packs, or something else? We have been using the Dreagers for a little while, and we have had some minor issues, nothing serious. Maybe I could help you out.

We are finding metal in the filter prior to the 1st state and having some backframe issues with the lumbar pad in regards to cracking. We have also experianced a couple time issues with the heads up display....nothing too major though

We have found metal shavings in the filter before the 1st stage. We are also having issues with the backframe cracking at the lumbar waist pad. Also, have had a couple heads ups displays not function. How long have you had them in service?

Do you have the quick disconnect feature on the SCBA? It is the round fitting that allows you to depress the fitting and turn it a quarter turn to disconnect the cylinder instead of threading the cylinder off. We had the quick disconnect feature and had some issues with metal flaking off that piece and getting into the air orifice. Draeger said it was an issue with the metal cleaning agent used to rinse the bare metal before plating the metal. Draeger replaced all of our quick disconnect pieces and that solved the problem. If this is where your metal is flaking off, have them replace the quick disconnect pieces and you should be good.

We also had some issues with the original "AA" batteries in the HUD and power pack of the frame. When we replaced the batteries with fresh batteries, the problem was solved. We also had Draeger replenish the batteries we replaced.

Yes, we have the quick disconnect feature. Not too impressed yet, but we will see. We asked our distributor and they are saying they know nothing about the metal cleaning agent, so they are looking into it. As for the "AA" battery issue. We will try new ones and see what happens. How much run time are you getting? It doesn't seem like we are getting great run times with these, but maybe it's the batteries they originally provided.

Another question, have you had any issues with the masks? We have had some kind of fall apart. They don't seem very duarable in some ways and the local Dist has already said that it's considered wear and tear, but we haven't used them much. We have also had the MMR pop out a couple times, but that was when we first started using them, so that could have been training. We went from Survivair to these, so we'll see. These weren't my first choice.

Not impressed with these packs at all. Scott was my choice. Our masks have fall apart as well. Our sentinal was also overly sensitive. It took FOREVER to get this fixed by the rep. We also go through batteries like water.

The one thing I do like is the quick disconnect fitting.

Have your rep check back with the engineers in Pittsburgh who are real familiar with the flaking metal plating on the quick connect feature. If your rep says there is no such thing, he doesn't know his product or his company very well. The director of Public Safety products in North America for Draeger sure knows about it, as he is the person who told us about it.

We haven't had any problems with the masks. The batteries are supposed to last 1 year, figuring on 1 hour's worth of use per day. We just transitioned to the Draeger in June so we don't know the average battery life yet.

Thanks for your help bomberodevil....it looks like we are getting the issue with the metal flaking resolved now. Not sure if it was because of this thread or what, but again thanks again!

Glad to help and glad to hear you are getting satisfaction from the factory. You need to remember that this is Version 1.0, and there is going to be some bugs to work out. In regards to the sensitivity of the Sentinel alarm, we also noticed that the Sentinel would go into pre-alert and alert while our people to walking, pulling ceiling, and other activities that should have stopped the unit from going into alert. The factory sent a rep out and measured the sensitivity level of the units and found they were not the same as the units that we evaluated last summer! We sent a factory rep around to all of the stations and he performed a quick software change and the Sentinels now perform like they should. Like I said, Version 1.0!
