    Default Congressional Letters for AFG

Do these really help, or are they more to increase awareness of our reps?

Peer reviewers don't get to see them. Awareness of the reps is a huge benefit, especially since we're nearing the end of the initial legislation.

During technical review they may help, but overall this is a peer driven program.

Contact your local congressman's office. Inform them you are looking for a letter of support for the AFG program and tell them what you are applying for. They should be able to offer support from there.

    Yes include your narrative.
It's showing them what your problem is and will show what you are up against. I personally got a call from our Senator's office stating he will do whatever he can to help.

Attached please find a copy of the letter that Senator Grassley is sending to you via the USPS regarding his support for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program application submitted to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security by the Jamaica Community Volunteer Fire Department for a new truck. Senator Grassley sent a letter of support directly to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and it will be matched with the application at the agency.

I hope this is helpful. Senator Grassley will be back in touch should he learn more about your application. However, donít hesitate to contact me if Senator Grassley may be of assistance with any federal matter.

Thanks guys, I was just working on a form letter that I could send to all our rep and 2 senators, but sending an email with the narrative attached does seem to be better.

Nothing in the PG that gives any added weight to letters of support. Peer reviewers don't get to see them, nothing in the computer scoring that adds points. They have no bearing on whether you get a grant or not...

BUT...it keeps the Legislators feeling like they're involved in the process and that doesn't hurt when it's time to vote on funding.
