    Default Laser eye surgery?

    Short and simple

Is there any hesitation to be hired on a full time fire department if you get Laser Eye surgery? I want to know cause when i go in the military after BT i plan on getting my laser eye surgery.

I can't speak for other paid departments, but I have had LASIK and have had no problems relating to firefighting. I just wish I would have had it done sooner. I also know several others who are on paid deparmtments that have had the surgery and have no problems.

Like I said, I can't speak for all departments, but I havn't heard of any that prohibit the surgery.

I recommend you stick to glasses.

I had lasik and regret it. Basically I paid $3,000 for a Doctor to trade my correctable vision problems, for uncorrectable vision problems.

Important to note this. Talk with your doctor and don't go bargan shopping. There are risks to the surgery that you need to understand. There are possible side effects that can be worse than wearing glasses. Having said that, of the extremely small sample of people I know who have had the surgery, none have had any issues.

I had it done last Sept and highly recommend it. My insurance paid for it. My vision is great and I had zero side effects. As far as I know, only a very small percentage have issues. I was already on the job when I had the procedure.

I had it done years ago, I highly recommend it.

However, I also highly recommend you find the doctor and act only by referral from others.

i had this done immediately after failing a conditional offer of employment physical for the city of columbus, which said you had to have no worse than 20/100 vision uncorrected. Anyhow, Im very happy at the dept im at now, and dont ever, ever regret having lasik surgery. I would make sure you go with a doctor that has a good record and comes highly reccommended. Any questions feel free to shoot me an email. stiffler1705@aol.com

I still to this day at night have some halo around lights at night, but as for firefighting, i ve never had a problem wearing a scba or what not.
