Hey guys, i know this is a primarily american site but what the hell eh... i live in Vancouver Canada and i always see firefighters wearing the plastic yellow (i think they're the 660 metro) helmets and was wonderring... why no leather? i've seen pics of FFs from all over Canada and most, with the exception of the odd Chief or instructor here and there, are wearing the metros... so my question is are there regulations against wearing the leather helmets? or is it a department thing? or is there something about those yellow helmets i'm missing, i mean everywhere i've read about the comparison of plastic to leather almost everyone chooses leather... are you restricted to wearing only the PPE the department issues you or can you go out and buy stuff on your own?
Thanks for your help!
