    Default Question for all

Hey everyone, I'm from Columbus, Ohio and going to be taking a civil service test. If I get through the process to the interviews and everything, will a third degree misdemeanor for littering have a big impact on me? If I wasn't going into this profession, a third degree misdemeanor would be a slap on the wrist, but since it's the fire service it's a whole different story. I was just wondering what may come of it if I get through the process. Thanks in advance!

    Jared

Probably not. Don't try to hide it- or anything else that'll show up eventually. Candidates without youthful indiscretions are rare; I have a buddy who was a state police trooper who was the only candidate in his graduating class that had never tried marijuana- a question asked under polygraphy (a useless screening test, BTW). Even the FBI has had to make adjustments because if they ruled out everyone with minor background problems, they'd never be able to meet their staffing requirements.

If it's brought up- it was a long time ago, I was young, I was stupid, and that whole thing about flushing lit cherry bombs- all I can say is that I have a great deal more respect for indoor plumbing than I did at that age, sir.

I am guessing no, but not sure.

Do not hide it either, that is worse.

Greenpeace will never let you in. A fire department will probably be okay.
