A vollie need 2, 4 hour classes, plus the wildlands module that normally lasts 5 to 6 hours. That is the minimum to get on a dept. Up there, there are a lot of pro/paid on call dept. Which may have different standards. Depends on what type of dept you are joining. Are people are getting it done in a weekend or two.

Did you say two - four hour classes plus a wildland class ?

Around here, we do the intro class, lasts about 4 hours. Then the PPE class on a Sat, last about 4 hours. Then the Forestry Dept does the wildlands.

What about full time/carrer firefighting what do I need to do?
Thanks for the help so far

wow... here in FL you have to take 160 hour course for FFI (includeds EMR (1st responder)) to be a vol.
The 160 hour is changing to 240 hours around Oct. '09.
be safe!

Fayetteville FD
Hey Trojans15, Here is some helpful info. I used to work for Fayetteville for about 3 years. You need to have your AR EMT licence to test for the FFD, and if you have or FF 1 and 2 that doesn't hurt but not required I don't think as of now. It is a good place to work and I would recommend trying for them if you get a chance. They just tested and have a list but still check w/ HR and the dept. if they might test again soon. There is a chance of promotions coming up and they might have to test again to fill spots. Send me your email address and I can give you some contact info on people to talk to and other info of interest. They have 7 stations w/ 6 engine co's and 3 truck co's. They belong to the IAFF, and the retirement is kick butt, that is one thing I miss. But just give me a shout and I'll help out.
