We're about to take delivery of a John Deere Gator UTV, that we're going to outfit to assist hand crews...hand tools, drip torch, leaf blowers, etc. It will also carry 50 gallons of water with an electric pump, but this is really only for mop-up.
I need to figure out what to call it before it gets unofficially tagged "Gator 1". I can deal with someone saying, "Can we get the Gator over here?" on the radio, but I don't want people calling it "Gator 1" on the radio. Little too redneck for me.
Any help? It's more of a support vehicle than anything, and I don't want to add confusion with our mutual aid departments by designating it a brush truck or grass rig.
Right now, I'm thinking "Utility 1".
You thoughts appreciated.

If Ranger had given us state-contract pricing like John Deere did (21% off), then we would have considered them a bit more!
Stuck 1?! The 3000# winch with front and rear receivers is going to help get us out of those situations.
They guys over on the voluteer board seem to think "Gator 1" isn't that bad...apparently it's fairly common. I'm still leaning towards "Utility 1"....though some guy over there said it meets the criteria for a Type VII wildland engine. Go figure.Bryan Beall

It probably does... http://www.nwcg.gov/teams/fewt/reports/typ-std.pdf , page 4 is the chart showing the minimum requirements.

We call our's SOV-7 short for Special operations vehicle. 7 because of our station number.

(about it being an "Engine, Type 7"...)
"Patrol-1"... hee hee hee.It probably does... http://www.nwcg.gov/teams/fewt/reports/typ-std.pdf , page 4 is the chart showing the minimum requirements.
My opinions might coincide with someone of importance's POV... I wouldn't know, since I never bothered to ask. My policy is: "Don't ask, don't care."

Your UTV would be an engine, but it would not qualify as a type 7 because it won't have enough pressure or likely carry enough hose. Just give it a designation as you do any of your other engines. There should be no confusion with that.
