    Default Bent Extension Cylinder

This picture was posted on a 4x4 off highway truck website. The poster declined to give any information about the Fire Department who owns the unit or the manufactuer of the unit. I apoligize for the poor picture. Had to reduce size to fit forums KB capacity.
Does anyone have information on this unit or what may have caused this?

Looks like an engineer didn't properly use Uehler's law for analyzing slender columns.

It's a steel ladder because of the rubber rung covers.

I'm sure one of the reps lurking around the forums knows exactly what happened. I don't see how something like that would not get back to the manufacturer.

So how about it... What happened???
I can't believe they actually pay me to do this!!!

One friend noted yesterday that a fire officer only carries a flashlight, sometimes prompting grumbling from firefighters who have to lug tools and hoses.
"The old saying is you never know how heavy that flashlight can become," the friend said.

My sources deep within the CIA tell me that this is a brand-new tiller, that hasn't even left the factory yet (a certain un-named manufacturer located in Appleton, Wi.) I can't mention the name of the Mfr. because if you do in a negative light, their kool-aid drinkers have temper tantrums and whine pathetically.

    Question Bent Part

    FirePundit,
Thank you for the reply. Could you translate into laymens speak for me? Are you saying this is a design problem with the ladder?

I have no clue what happened there, but it seems odd that one side is mangles and the other is fine. If I were to guess, I would say that there was a hydraulic problem causing one side to overload or a defective rod on the hydraulic cylinder.

Our aluminum rungs on our Sutphen aerials have rubber coverings.

To the OP: Can you e-mail the fullsize image to me?
