Firefighter II/EMT-Intermediate (56 hr/wk)

Starting pay: $730.44 weekly (base)
Educational incentives: college courses paid for with 3.0 or higher (up to 6 credits/yr.)
Weekly Stipends for higher education degrees AS $20. BS $25, MS $30

24/48 schedule (56 hour average)
12 paid holidays
12 sick days a year to start
6 vacation days per year, 9 days after 5 years, 12 days after 10 years, 15 days after 20 yrs.
Choice of compensatory time off or pay for overtime work (1.5 times hours over 53)

Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma
Clean drivers license
State of Maine EMT-Basic license (EMT-I or Paramedic preferred)
Firefighter I certified (all NFPA 1001 compliant certificates accepted) (FF II preferred)
Haz-mat Ops level certified (technician preferred and required to be obtained)

Preferred:
State of Maine Licensed Paramedic
Firefighter II (any NFPA compliant certificate accepted)
Haz-mat Technician
Experience in firefighting, EMS or haz-mat response a plus.

Beyond fire suppression and EMS, Rockland Firefighters also train and operate as members of the Haz-mat/WMD Regional Response Team, technical rescue team, perform heavy extrication duties and assist with public education.

EMT-Paramedic (42 hr/wk)

Starting pay: $527.59 weekly (base)

4 12 hr. days on, 4 days off schedule (42 hour average)
12 paid holidays
12 sick days a year to start
7 vacation days per year, 10.5 days after 5 years, 14 days after 10 years, 17.5 days after 20 yrs.

The EMT-P responds on all first due EMS calls to provide treatment and/or transport of the injured or ill, operates an ambulance on all emergencies covered by the City of Rockland, provides a rehab and treatment sector at all emergency incidents per the incident commander, acts as the incident commander’s aide when required, provides emergency medical public education as required, has shared responsibility for maintaining the Department billing log and information, prepares reports and information for the billing service, may represent the Department as required at drills, meeting and exercises pertaining to EMS, checks and maintains EMS supplies both in stock and on ambulances, functions as part of the department “team” assisting other on duty members with “household duties” as required, and participates in department training and required training.

Lateral transfers available to employees meeting the requirements for firefighter/EMT positions.

Rockland Fire/EMS operates three shifts of career personnel and a 25 member call division. The career shifts operate with 5 Fire/EMS personnel working 24 hours and one EMS only member working a 12 hour day. Personnel are rotated through apparatus assignments monthly after meeting the minimum training requirements for each. These assignments include: first due engine firefighter, first due engine operator, aerial operator, second due engine operator, ambulance operator and ambulance technician. Additionally, most career members are also certified fire instructors, EMS instructors, and WMD Technicians. Numerous in-state and out of state training opportunities exist for Rockland Fire/EMS personnel in addition to the in house training program.
