Hello I am a relatively new member of the firehouse forums but I have looked in for a long time. I visited a cousin in The Catskill NY area about a month ago and they knew I was a fire service person.
They gave me a helmet and said they didnt have any knowledge of where it came from. To describe it; Its a typical looking older MSA traditional style of helmet, had been black but was painted red. There is a label inside but the writing on it has been worn away. There is a MSA frontispiece on the front and on the top cut out it says OFFD and on the bottom cut out it says LHCO.
There is a large numeral 1 in the center of the frontispiece also.
On the sides of the helmet and on the rear brim, there are painted the letters
L.H. CO. This is one of the old helmets that has the suspension tied through the outer shell. The paint is flaking off. If I had to guess what the material is it looks like what we used to call pith. It looks like it had a zip out liner with a leather head band still inside, It has 4 point suspension. Sure would appreciate any help tracing this lid.
