Default Central Pierce County Fire and Rescue

So the written exam is at the end of the month and I wanted to establish a place to discuss any issues while going through the testing process. Feel free to ask questions, post results or just get a little more info. Last I heard they will be taking up to 15 firefighter/EMTs and establishing a hire list for the next year or two. Welcome everyone hope to see you all for the written.

Anyone have insight into the the next phase of central pierce testing after the written? It's scheduled for a full day of assessments.

All I really know is from the information packet that was online with the applications. EMT skill assessment, customer service skill assessment(??), and oral boards. Still waiting for the detailed email about it all.

    CFPR Asssessment Center:

(round robin groups, not always in this order)

    WRITTEN EVALUATION

One page pencil written assignment on an assigned topic. Follow directions closely.

    EMS EVALUATION

Patient assessment while under the supervision of a 3 person panel. Follow your ABCs and what you were taught in EMT school, be aware of your surroundings, and don't overcomplicate things.

    CUSTOMER SERVICE ROLE PLAY

If any of you have customer service experience, handle this as you would any customer. Use good common sense, good people skills, listen, and send the customer away knowing you have their best interest in mind.

    ORAL BOARD

No-nonsense, standard oral board. Panel consists of 2-3 people, a Batt. Chief potentially being one of them.

    *POST PROCESS*

For those you who don't make it - take the opportunity to review your assessment center rating sheets when the hiring process is over. They are VERY insightful and helpful. Karen Johnson will provide you with instructions on how to do this when the process is complete.

Oh, and you'll be put in a *waiting room* with several other candidates. Don't do or say anything stupid.

    Good luck!

Thanks Coug for that. I was really going into this blind about some of the topics.

Job offers are supposed to happen Dec. 1st. Anyone know what comes after the assessment center besides Chief's interview and medical/drug screening? Doubt that would take a month and a half.

Well usually there are conditional job offers before they do medical screenings and background checks those things take time and cost money.

Great little (big) department! I can count at least 5 off the top of my head some of the great people I used to work with that got picked up there.

If you are in the process with them and do not get selected, make sure to take advantage of the sit-down with Ms. Johnson. This is the one department I've known to offer you this insight/feedback of your own performance.

The customer service portion was always the most harrowing. Make it through that first, and the oral board is a breeze.

    Good luck.

Just an FYI, and not confirmed...Snohomish County Fire District 1 will likely be hiring quite a few people in the coming two years, as they are in negotiations to take over Edmonds Fire.

SCFD1 is pretty much the north-end equivalent to Central Pierce. VERY similar in terms of size, layout, and call volume.

I hope they don't give us someone hysterical for the customer service part. What day are you scheduled for? I'm going in Friday.
