Yes, I tried searching but couldn't find what I wanted. I am looking for the percentage of FF nationwide that are vols, the percentage of departments that are vol, and the 5 largest cities that use vols or poc. Any help would be appreciated.

Easy one..
Right here
Fire Statistics
Fire department types*: Career (7.5%), Mostly Career (5.8%), Mostly Volunteer (16.5%), All Volunteer (70.1%)
13% of all departments are career or mostly career and protect 62% of the U.S. population
87% of fire departments are volunteer or mostly volunteer and protect 38% of the population
There are an estimated 68,050 pumpers and 6,750 aerial apparatus in the United States for 2005-2007
Except for the 5 largest POC or volunteer departments.
The largest population served by a volunteer department, that I am aware of, is Bloomington, MN with a population of roughly 83,000 and a daytime population of about 110,000.
They also cover the largest mall in the world, The Mall of America.
Would be interesting to see what the populations are of the districts covered by the Long Island and Bucks County, PA volunteer departments are.
And there are also several ISO 1 volunteer departments as well.
Long Island New York's two counties that dont belong to New York City have a population of 2.75 million plus the illegal aliens so close to 2.9 million.
Nassau county which is closer to the city is 1.34 million
Suffolk 1.5 million
Suffolk has 110 depts divided into 10 divisions
Nassau has I believe 8 divisions and not sure of the # of depts.
Eastern Suffolk county was and still is alot of farmland. It didnt have many hydranted districts until 10 years ago, when we lost farmland to development.
The western depts. have larger populations, the east end depts swell in the summer from tourists.
Thanks for the info guys, I just needed some ammo in an argument. It worked out great.
if we are talking about bucks county pa what about montgomery county pa
change above post to:
"any populous county in PA using volunteers"
10 posts and no one mentioned Kentland??..................:p
Chief ..
Do you happen to know the response area of Kentland?
Meant to ask the population of Kentland's response area ..... including everyone else's first due .
The Big Island of Hawaii has a resident populaton (not including tourists) of 201,109, with an area of 4,028 square miles and has a combo dept.
Malana ...
I should have known that given I had 3 gentleman from Hawaii County FD in my National Fire Academy class a couple of years ago.
Very professional group.
No, it had to do with the healthcare debate, d-bag. Do you really think people have nothing to talk about but this mickey mouse BS here? Career vs volly? Why in the f#@k would I care about that? I couldn't care less what you people do in your spare time, or frankly what you do at your department. What possible bearing does "career vs volly" have on my life or career? What possible lessons could you teach me about my job? Seriously. Get over yourself and this site. This can be an entertaining place occasionaly, but for the most part it is endless debate and arguing over meaningless garbage. Helmets, whats in your pockets, should you wear scba in the smoking section, boots, gloves, how to not go into fires, etc. You have guys who's entire department does 200 runs a year lecturing everyone about operations. Do you guys wonder why there are what, 15,000 fdny members but only 3 or 4 post here? Why there are 5000 Chicago firemen but none post here? Why there are 4500 Houston firemen but only 1 or 2 bother to waste time here? Maybe you should think about that before you make yet another stupid post based on no information.
