Can anyone tell me an approximate age of this helmet???

Cairns & Brother were badge makers before they made helmets.
From the picture I can't tell you exactly which Helmet that is, but my guess is it is a heavy cast aluminum. They started making those in the early 1930s, can't remember the exact year.
There isn't a letter to the left of the hydrant so I'm thinking about 1933-35. Later Helmets had a Letter stamped to the left of the hydrant on the plate.
If the helmet has the crest, on the right side there should be a patent number; perhaps "US Pat No 1.889.537". The center screw threads into the crest, this appears to be original.
Under the front brim they sometimes stamped a date. Some things for you to check.
I would really like to see the rest of it so I can narrow it down for you.
here is the helmet - for some reason the first 2 times I tried here it didn't post!
It is actually leather...has a brown cloth lining.....
If I had studied the photo a bit closer you can see the stitching to the lower left of the plate.
It is not pre-WW2. Supposively, Cairns moved to Clifton NJ after WW2. (One source claims Cairns moved to NJ about 1902, but most agree with the post WW2). Cairns will know when that move occurred.
Cairns began to place a "Letter" to the left of the hydrant on the Clifton NJ plate in 1947.
Based upon what I can see, I think you have a 1946-47 New Yorker.
Is there a patent number on the right side of the front piece holder? The holder has been around since about 1926-27 in various designs. This is not the famous Eagle.
Contact MSA Customer Service... they should be able to help you date it.
On the liner there may still be a size label. If so can you see some numbers, not the size? Those are numbers of helmet made numbers.
Happy Easter, hope everyone has a safe and blessed Easter
Finally, some warm weather!!!!
Was in the high 70's low 80's today, spent the day at the beach, man life is hard on the coast.:D

Tornado Warning In my area, God I hope this storm misses us!
Hope they missed you Bull- we have storms moving through right now - thankfully the tornado warning for just north of me was just cancelled....
Funny - doesn't look bad out the window - but the radar shows a VERY different story just to the west of me!
Yeah, my grandmother's city, Birmingham got hit hard. Tuscaloosa has 32 confirmed deaths and are expecting that number to rise once search and rescue is completed. Pray for the folks of the states that have been hit and for the areas expected to get hit.
