"5" is a nice round number.

    5

    The atomic number of boron.

The lightest atomic mass (the sum of protons and neutrons) for which no stable isotopes exist for any element.

The number of appendages on most starfish, which exhibit pentamerism.

The most destructive known hurricanes rate as Category 5 on the Saffir–Simpson Hurricane Scale.

The most destructive known tornadoes rate an F-5 on the Fujita scale.

Don't underestimate the power of 5.

But Sorry, 5 is a not a round number... but rather a nice prime number,

Five is between 4 and 6 and is the third prime number, after 2 and 3, and before 7. Because it can be written as 2(2^1)+1, five is classified as a Fermat prime. 5 is the third Sophie Germain prime, the first safe prime, the third Catalan number, and the third Mersenne prime exponent. Five is the first Wilson prime and the third factorial prime, also an alternating factorial. Five is the first good prime. It is an Eisenstein prime with no imaginary part and real part of the form 3n − 1. It is also the only number that is part of more than one pair of twin primes. Five is a congruent number.

Five is conjectured to be the only odd untouchable number and if this is the case then five will be the only odd prime number that is not the base of an aliquot tree.

We drink beverages that come in 5ths.

We refer to some people as not having a 5th of sense.

In the old days, our speed limits were set to 55.

A Perfect fifth is the most consonant harmony, and is the basis for most western tuning systems.

Some people 'watch the clock' for 5.

    Now I'm 5'in-out since I'm tired of 5.

As for further discussion on this subject...

    I plead the 5th.

Does this mean that starfish are devil worshippers or just plain devil-fish?

I'm still getting over the five thing.

It has come to my attention that a Starfish is now called a Sea Star.

I was surprised that there actually is a Devil Fish, and it is not a devil ray.

    I suggest Google.

And now I have been accused of brain tiredness....

....and I didn't even have to teach a class.

    Things are looking up.

    Merism

Definition - A figure of speech in which the whole thing is mentioned by naming some of its parts.

    Example -
    (1) He search high and low
    (i.e., he searched everywhere).

    (2) God created the heavens and the earth
    (i.e., God created the universe).

    3) He went through it lock, stock and barrel
    (i.e., he rebuilt the gun).

Source - ODLT--The Online Dictionary of Language Terminology
    --------------------------------

I was thinking that "Pentamerism" meant 5 appendages.

But I like Harve's version better.

That's one hell of a mermaid.
