Default Dumb question, but need a Good answer

Alright i know i am beating a dead horse but here goes.

I am looking at a online academy through training Division out of Texas. I would love to go to a Full blown academy but I can't. On there site it says this

"The course is approved by the State of Texas, which is recognized by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress as an IFSAC state. During the Boot Camp, students will sit for the Texas test and would therefore be issued IFSAC certificates, usually allowing that student to transfer firefighter certification with other IFSAC states. The certifications awarded are Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazmat Awareness, and Hazmat Operations. This international process is valid in Canada."

What does that compare to in certification? Is that just a State certification, or is it a Cert. that only a few states Recognize? How does that compare to the Departments Certs around the country? Or Who Recognizes FISAC?

I have been lucky enough for my Small VFD to pay for me to go through my FF1-2 as long as i stay on and Continue to train Members.( Guess they are getting tired of NWCG, courses.) So i want to make sure that I m getting a good, up to date, and well recognized cert.

Alright guys go easy on me, I am new to the "structured" side of fire.

If you have already taken FFI/FFII then why do you need the academy?

Why not just take the certification test? In LA, you don't even have to take a particular class to take the test. If you think you have the skills and knowledge you can challenge any test.

What else is the academy going to give you? A cert is a cert.

Again, this paying for your own training confuses me.

Again, most suburbs REQUIRE you be trained before you apply.

An example to help with the confusion.

    Bro,

I did Trainingdivision.com and it was awesome. There's another thread already going about online vs. classroom academies (relatively recently). Try looking it up.

    Best of wishes.

No, MY VFD is going to pay for the Academy. Thats why i want to make sure that I have one selected that will be more than just a single state approved course.

I am already a on a Dept, and i have sneaking suspicion that after this i will be asked to teach.

    I misunderstood.

I thought you had already taken the courses but hadn't tested out.

I am confused. You are currently on a department but not certified, and that department is going to pay for you to go to an online academy to get your Firefighter I and II and then you will be expected to train others? What level are the rest of your memebers currently training to?

Not necessarily true..... I am looking to work in Texas and to convert my CSFM (California State Fire Marshal) Certs to IFSAC/Pro Board Certs (what the State of Texas recognizes) or a Texas Commission on Fire Protection Cert it was going to cost me about $1,600. Since each Cert that is converted you must pay for.

Thank God I work in Service to the Army and we have to have IFSAC/Pro Board Certs. This saved me some serious cash.....

My advice, is to contact the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and tell them which Certs you have and ask if they accept Certs from Colorado (I think that's where it says you're from). Your "S" Series Classes (S-130/131/190, etc.) should transfer over. You can also check with your State Training Office, since I'm pretty sure that you're not the first person from your State to try and transfer, and you would be surprised at the info. those Folks have.

Well again..... That's just my experience and my .02.....

In Texas, things are a little different.

You cannot challenge a test to be a structural firefighter in texas ( to my knowledge) without completing the educational requirements. The certifications ACCOMPANY a specific amount of hours AS WELL as completion and graduation of an ACCREDITED fire training program.
