My department just bought a Ford Expedition to use as a QRS vehicle. There is no way to carry our Stokes basket on it, so we are exploring the break-apart baskets. I would appreciate any thoughts on them. Durability, ease of assembly/disassembly, wire vs. plastic, etc. Thanks in advance.

We use a Ferno Titan two-peice, and have been very happy with it.
The assembly is fast, and the rail connection is coarse thread so it screws together with only 8-10 turns. It is rock solid when assembled, and retains it's 2500lb rating.

I also picked up a backpack harness for it, so the two halves can be nested and backpacked into the scene.Last edited by mcaldwell; 10-21-2009 at 11:05 PM.
Never argue with an Idiot. They drag you down to their level, and then beat you with experience!

If space is an issue you might even look at carrying a sked, as it can do practically everything a stokes can while taking up alot less space.

Junkin makes a nice one thats a Stainless frame with a plastic molded shell, much more sturdy than the old orange Ferno's.

We like the SKED a lot. It doesn't quite replace a stokes basket in every way, but nice tool to have...
