Hello all,
I tested for a fire cadet position in early November and have proceeded to the final 44. From this pool, the department will narrow the academy down to 20. My question deals with my 2004 income taxes. I found out yesterday that I owe a balance of $22 and some odd cents to the Government. I don't have any other skeletons in the closet other than a parking ticket. Can anyone tell me if this is something that will show up on my background check and whether or not it is something to worry about?
Thank you,
-Colin

Were you trying to sneak one by the government or was it a simply a mistake? Pay it now and disclose it. Depending if the gov't has put a lien on anything you might own or filed anything in your credit history, it may show up. If you just screwed up on your taxes and paid it now, disclose it and it probably won't be a problem.

It was an honest mistake. I just fouled up. I don't think they were withholding any pay. I just received a paycheck on the 1st.

Backgrounds.....
Just don't lie about it and you should be fine..... When the Background Investigator asks you about it, just tell em what happened.
Definitely take care of it ASAP..... Don't lose the best Job in the world over $22 and some change....."Be LOUD, Be PROUD..... It just might save your can someday when goin' through an intersection!!!!!"

Pay the $22 and declare it on a background. This will not disqualify you.....
