    Default Howard County Tanker

Has anyone seen this new foam tanker delivered to Howard County?

It has: 1,000 GPM separate engine driven pump, 350# dry-chemical system, 2-200 gallon class B foam tanks, 100 gallon class A foam refill tank, in cab pump controls, 1,000 GPM bumper turret, and all the tanker equipment and more!

That's a big rig. I'm sure it cost some big bucks, too.

Curious if it's a 2,3 or 4 man rig, seeing there's no rear door on the drivers side. Maybe one on the other side for 2 more people.

Also curious as to why the need of 350# of Dry-Chem on THAT rig. We have one with 500#'s of Dry-Chem, but it's a one purpose use rig, for a small town airport (prop jobs only).

Probably intended to cover Interstate 95, seems like a pretty heads up idea.

I think it's a two man cab with a large compartment behind it.

I don't know why the pump and roll unless they are using it at a airport. There's no way they are getting that into a field!

why have a 1000 gpm bumper turret if you can't pump & roll with it. Be great for a string of car fires along the interstate, won't even need any FF's to get out of the truck.

Besides it will look cool in a parade!

Id hazard a guess that with the amount of tractor trailer Haz-Mat traffic they might have done something pretty heads up and innovative instead of just assuming some airport will send a crash rig. So, since the idea is a little outside the box and innovative, its probably easiest to make fun of it right? Unless I read that last post wrong.

Im assuming the have some large hazmat concerns.

I do like the idea of a class A foam cell for refilling their CAFs pumper. If you are bringing them more water with the tanker might as well bring them more foam.

Do you ever have anything worth reading when you post in these forums?

What's the issue with a department designing and spec'ing a rig that will fit their needs? Every time someone posts photos of a piece of apparatus that's not from your dime-a-dozen manufacture you have some wise-*** remark to try to make up for your "not-heavy-rescue-utility-truck".

Have you ever been to Howard County? I have by chance ran a couple jobs down there, and might actually know where this piece will get used. Perhaps it's designed to fit their needs for high-priority target zones, like hazmat and critical infrastructure?

    For ****s sake,

^^^^ He also missed the big picture and point. The pump works off a second engine, and not the powertrain engine.

Either that, or I miss read the specs and ability on it.

I didn't miss that at all . My response was that they had the aux engine to drive the pump & roll in order to make use if the bumper turret. It will make a good hiway truck and not require a ton of FF's to operate at a scene.
And Yes I have been to howard county. Actually have relatives down there that work for the govt.

Tanker 11 (Scaggsville) and Tanker 13 (Glenwood) are receiving these beasts.. the current Tanker 11 a Pierce/International 7600 3000gal Tanker, will be renamed Tanker 17 (Reserve Apparatus). Company 11 sits right off I-95, so the need for a Foam Tanker there in the area is a must. The only Foam Company in the area is College Park (PG County), that responds with a Class A Engine Company and their Ford F-350 Utility truck as the Foam Company. They must rely on either BWI Airport, Reagan National Airport or Dulles Airport for any big foam units.
