    Smile Keep your phones charged....

Not to send people into riot mode, but just an awareness. DHS still plans on an award announcement next week, so unless the 1199A & 10 Q module in the software gets fixed they will be making phone calls to prior award winners that are in line for the 2009s. If there are no changes to 1199A information they'll do the Q's over the phone and then put the award in the queue. First time award winners or those that need to file updated 1199As will be handled as soon as the software is fixed and may or may not make Round 1.

So if you get a phone call get right back to them.

From office 2003 to office 2007.

They were laughing about being right on the cutting edge....

Well, I have to update the contact info because as of friday my cell phone won't work (going home and no cell phone service there). Anybody know anything else about this "software update?" I mean we put a man on the moon, and the research center at the school I'm at thinks they have discovered a vaccine for AIDS. Why is it taking so long to update the computer?

I really hope they don't delay awards to first time winners. Please work it out AFGP. Where do I mail the Red Bull Energy Shots?

medstudent...you really need to take a chill pill, not sure how your dept runs but the grant info should be going through the chief or a higher ranked officer, imo.....

as for the phone calls, we have received 4 grants over the years and have never received a phone call from anyone, including senators....but, i'll definately keep it charged!!

I was a ranked officer in the past, but couldn't do it anymore since I moved away. So, the company basically "hired" me as their grant writer because I'm the most perfectionistic, OCD, neurotic person that drives herself with deadlines and following the rules. I agree I need a chill pill. Got one?

I don't mean to sound rude about the process. I just think it's been too long, and it's time for some news.

understood.....just remember, the AFG Program is a gift to the fire service, we had basically nothing available to us pre-9/11 (i think some departments forget that)....so, just sit back and enjoy the funding opportunity while it lasts, it won't be here forever....as far as the "chill pill"...budweiser works for me

    Default Getting ready

My favorite time of the year....high school football championships, basketball season, the Penguins of Pittsburgh, and AFG grants. I didnt write as many grants this year ( only about 15) as I have in the past, but I do have a few I am very interested in. One for my dept. and an engine for another. No reductions so far for either, but I chalk that up to knowing how much to write for...hopefully. Cant wait to hear about success's on here, just in time for the holidays.

Somewhere around here someone posted them from 2008, should be the same ones. They incorporated both versions into one email so at the bottom of the mainly Ops one is the vehicle stuff. People trained, performance bond, etc are all questions in that section.

    Red face Eeeee

I take it they will be calling the applicant contact information, and not the alternate1 and alternate2 which is listed first on the online application.

    Please say yes.

Well anyway an update is an update.

THANKS Brian for giving us the heads up and keeping your radar on.

If the AFG goes this route, it will be a huge surprise to the one's recieving the calls. I believe that the calls will go to just the folks without reductions. I don't believe they will want to deal with appeals on reductions based on a phone call. Appeals could go through multiple steps to determine approval/disapproval, something that can't be handle by a single phone call.

Considering reductions have been ongoing and the fact that others will be approved without reduction; I would have to believe that there are at least 3,000 or more awards in the pipeline at this point.

No matter what any movement is huge.

What about the Dear Johns? Will one get their heart broken over the phones, or just electronically?

Mainly because it's not backwards compatibile with Office 2003 without the add-on pack. I don't know how anyone on dial-up survives anymore, that thing is 27MB alone. Won't be upgrading here either. Might go to Windows 7 because it will run WinXP apps that Vista won't. Haven't bought any newer software I didn't desperately need because of that issue. Still have the old version, if 7 will run them I'm game.

anyone that got sucked into the whole vista package took three steps backwards. At least XP was a good attempt at copying Macs interface & ease of use. We'll see what 7 has to offer.
From a corporate profit standpoint windoze makes sense, they force you to upgrade $$$ every couple of years ,but they rush their products to market without debugging them and then have to make dozens of patches and repairs to make it almost work like a MAC.
No wonder the AFG system has issues!

    Wink BCer

I was visiting with my ISP tech guy last week and he mentioned that problems with Windows 7 were off the chart. Major problems. Was worried that I had 7 and lucky that I didn't.

So BRian, if your on the side of the fence that informs about the phone contacts, they must have a day in mind and you must know it. Care to give us an hour countdown?

And ruin the whole movie for everyone? Are you like the guy that went into "Titanic" and told everyone at the beginning that the ship sinks? Nobody likes that guy...

But this is for the safety of everyone. I was at the station when the phone rang. Some guy saying something about his house and a fire or something like that. I informed him that I didn't have time for that nonsense, that I was waiting on a very important phone call and hung up. He took the hint because he didn't call back!!!
