Roommates fend off would-be robber

OREM -- Four roommates were able to fend off a man who broke into their home early Sunday morning.

According to Orem police, the suspect entered the home near 950 West 400 South around 7:00, armed with a gun. One of the men who lived there woke up and confronted him. The other three residents heard the commotion and came to help.

The roommates were able to disarm the suspect and hold him down. During the fight, the suspect was stabbed several times.

He was taken to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in serious condition, where he was treated for a punctured lung and wounds to the head, chest and back.

One of the roommates suffered minor stab wounds but was expected to be OK.

Police said the suspect was looking to steal electronic equipment from the home. They said they did not know if the suspect targeted the home randomly or if it was planned.

They did not release the name of the suspect Sunday.
