    Smile ID cards

Hi everyone I am looking for some ideas on ID cards. My department would like to start making personnel ID cards in house? We need a system that can do a double sided card. We are looking for the complete kit. Everything we need ready to go out of the box. Give me your ideas, and what is your department using. We are looking to spend between $1000.00- $1500.00 for the complete kit. Thank you.

I'm not sure how elaborate you want to get but we use a 'homegrown' access database and print a form (including a picture, contact info, etc), and bought a simple laminator. We use them as ID cards and accountability tags (double laminated). We've used this 'system' for several years and you can easiliy modify it to meet your needs.

We use something similar, encased in laminated plastic. Inside is also some basic vital medical information, "just in case." All you have to do is cut the lamination open at one end and slide out the paper.

We got one of those hard plastic printed systems, like IDVille.

We have ours expire after x number of years, so that if someone leaves and we don't get it back, it won't get them much play.

We also put this on the back, "ID can be verified with Driver's License" and put the DL number on the back of the FD ID.

Talk to whoever in your state is responsible for "credentialling". While credentialling is MUCH MORE than just issuing ID cards, there will likely be some credentailing initiatives (at state level) that may effect what you need/do at a local level for ID cards.

I wouldn't expect much, depending on the state.
