Default May Day Training For Your Dispatcher's

Good afternoon all. Does your center provide dispatchers with training specifically for a firefighter declaring a May Day? If so what does that training include? Do you have a specific policy/procedure for such events?

I am looking for sample SOG's/SOP's/ Policies/Procedures. If you have such please post here or e-mail then to me at pnorwood@easthavenfire.com

    Stay Safe.

    P.J.

If our dispatchers overheard a mayday, they would think a plane was falling out of the sky. No joke!!

My center has a formalized Fireground/Hazmat chapter in training that includes Mayday.

Policy states when a Mayday is heard, to drop warble tones, advise over the air of the Mayday, initiate a Par check, and open all radio frequencies for a sign of the downed personnel.

Beyond that, good luck... just throwing out a glimpse of what we do.

Just curious, but in the time spend having dispatch do that...who is able to communicate with that "Mayday"?

We did Alarms & Communications training just last night and invited the dispatchers to attend. One actually showed up and when we got to declaring a MAYDAY... well, to say the least it was an illuminating experience.
