We are also in the mix of redoing and making new sop's and sog's. Does anyone have a lpg flare sop/sog/procedure? We are having a debate as to treat as haz-mat or standard call. It would be dealing with containers upto and including 100lb.
    Thanks.

We also have a book of directives.

These are memos with important orders from the Chief. They are recognized in our by-laws and prove a useful way to get important communications to the members.

Typically, it's been minor things that perhaps didn't make it's way into an SOP. As Chief, I only wrote a few a year (maybe a dozen), but they were a quick and easy way to get the word out.

Keeping them in a book also helped to keep things organized.
I am now a past chief and the views, opinions, and comments are mine and mine alone. I do not speak for any department or in any official capacity. Although, they would be smart to listen to me.

Get hold of VFIS, if they are your insurer. They can clue you in to what THEY need for SOPs. (to keep your policy)

Also, look to FD's that post them online. You can get an idea from their SOPs to start yours.

I know Sedona FD and Phoenix FD post theirs online.

Contact your state OSHA Office. In AZ they have free "fill in the blank" plans to use. As long as you keep up the ongoing training and stick to the wording, its golden.
