What kind of courses are you looking for?

Some courses are great, BUT basic firefighting and emt , well I have a problems with on line courses.

How do you do practical work? Do you get your wife to cut her finger in the kitchen so you can work on her?

Do you get a neighbor to have a heart attack so you can practice CPR?

Or do you set fire to a room so you can watch it burn and learn how it will progress before you drag a garden hose inside to extinguish it?

How are you going to learn confine space rescue or even high angle operations?

What I getting to, is that on line courses are as good as learn the cognitive knowledge but as far as really learning the job, one must be in a classroom with an instructor and on the yard with ALL THE GOODIES WE USE AND IN A LIVE CONTROL FIRE SITUITION.

Capt oldtimer i agree with ya. I am actually a certified firefighter in NY and moved to NC year and half ago. Im just looking for like wildland and brush up my skills.Ive been also studying like the incidents in NFA Online. I do not agree with getting your firefighter and emt online. Im not looking for the technical where you should learn hands on.

Almost without exception I find on-line training to be lacking in any value. That said, the on-line version of the S-130 / S-190 wildland firefighting courses are actually pretty well done. They are available through the NFA on-line website. You need to do a "field day" with an instructor to complete the certification, so it's really a "mixed learning" program.
