    Default Training/Safety Videos

I am Assistant Chief for a Volunteer Fire Dept. in my community and am interested in training videos for the department. I was wondering if anyone had information about available training videos and where to get them. As we are a rural volunteer department, the videos need to be cheap or free. We do not have internet access at the department so we would need VHS/DVD formats--preferably DVDs. Thanks for reading this post and I look forward to any information any of you may have to help my department. God Bless!

Do you have a state or regional fire academy? We've never really used the service, but I think that LSU-FETI (Louisiana's primary fire training school) has a library of training videos that they will loan free of charge upon request (at least they used to). Maybe someone in your area has a similar program. You might want to check that avenue first.

Also, consider applying for an AFG Grant through the U.S. Fire Administration. We got one for training in 2008 and bought a bunch of videos and other training materials (textbooks, etc.) If you are truly that needy you may have a good shot at winning an award.

    Good luck!

"I have a dream. It's not a big dream, it's just a little dream. My dream and I hope you don't find this too crazy is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."

I know you do not have internet but if someone in the department does they the videos on the site can be downloaded and easily burned to dvd format for playing in your dvd player.

Another source is Fireengineering.com. They have training videos and also simulators you can use in a group.
