Look in Norman's Fire officer book in the utlility emergencies. Has to do with oil burners.

Clearly it is a ghost that is not black or white, but somewhere in the middle.

Management is making sure things are done right. Leadership is doing the right thing. The fire service needs alot more leaders and a lot less managers.

"Everyone goes home" is the mantra for the pussification of the modern, American fire service.

never heard the term grey ghost...but white ghost refers to oil burners. When oil vapors arent preheated but become atomized, they can fill the room with vapors via a pre existing smoke condition. Explosions of the white ghost occur when it finds an ignition source.

Basically a vapor/air mixture that is heated but with no ignition source.

Ahhh... the “white ghost”. It is often preceded by hard starting and blowback.

The high temperatures of the firebox and ignition failure of atomized fuel entrains the fuel into the black smoke pouring from the furnace, turning it “pearly white”… henceforth, the “white ghost”.

The sudden change from black to white smoke, accompanied by the strong smell or taste of oil is a warning sign of the white ghost… if it ignites, the explosion and fire can be devastating. Being in the room with the white ghost is like being in a room full of natural gas that ignites.

One should only enter under the vapor cloud under the protection of a hoseline and only to effect a rescue!

If you are in the area and “ghost” appears… get the hell out of Dodge!

    This is the Grey Ghost.

There is also The Gray Ghost, which was a Western show.

    You're welcome.

I heard that Johnny 67 was scared of fire.

Was he afraid that the Grey Ghost would get him?
