prescription mask - prescription glasses for mask???

Hey all, I heard that Scott sells a mask that you can insert glasses into a mask, or they can make a mask that has your prescription built into the mask glass?

Has anyone heard of such, or has used these products. Ive heard that the inserts arent good because as soon as your mask shifts alittle, you cant see. And the prescription built into the mask, I just cant see that working..

Ive also heard that someone sells like goggles that fit inside the mask with a flat strap that goes around your head... and the mask can still make a steal.

Has anyone heard of this product either...

Thanks so much, and please dont respond saying, you dont need to see, you cant see in a fire anyway.. Only persons with prescription glasses would realize how nice it is to see when your doing over haul....

This works with the AV-3000 mask and dose work very well.... i have no issues with not being able to see, as this eye glass holder clips on to the noise cup it will move around but always comes back into the right spot for me to see.

I have used mask specs for 20+ years. First MSA, and then later Scott. Both manufacturer's mask spec kits were well designed and worked well. If you use Scott, I would recommend their product- you might also want to check with your department, their written respiratory protection policy may require that you use manufacturer-approved accessories only.

Additionally, 29CFR1910.134 (The national standard for respiratory protection) forbids the use of any device which penetrates the face seal, this includes the rubber-strap spectacle kit that many like to use. Every time this topic comes up in the forums, a few come on here and boast that "the US Military uses them with chemical masks." Wrong answer- they USED to use them with M40 masks, however tests at Aberdeen Proving Ground "proved" the infiltration of minute amounts of chemical contaminates into the mask(and a "minute" amount of VX is enough to kill you.....) therefore the US Military no longer uses the rubber strap-type kits.

Also remember that in many states your Department is required to provide you with the spec kits as well as pay for the prescription if you are required to wear and use SCBA. Volunteer Departments included.

I also use the Scott spec kit. Have had no problems of any kind with it. Several of our guys also have them and I have heard on no problems from anyone.

I also use the Scott specs. Works well, they are on a type of suspension that keeps them in place somewhat independent of the mask itself. So, if the mask shifts a little, you're OK. If the mask shifts enough to knock the specs out of whack, it would be enough to break the seal, and you've got other problems.

Also, my department paid for the lenses and frame. It took me about a month to get them in. Give me a few days, I can find the name of the place we got them from.

I worked as a plant medic in the early 90's and there was a spring loaded frame you could have glasses mounted to for general use with an SCBA. I would believe a doctor that did industrial medicine could write you a script for the frames.

You do not need a Doctor's prescription for the frames or spec kits if you use the factory-approved devices. You only need your most recent corrective prescription for the lens specifications. Most opticians can obtain the lenses as they "farm out" much of their work to sub contractors who make all kinds of lenses.

The frame that Scott uses is a pretty common frame. When I took mine in to my eye doctor he looked at it and said that is a bla bla frame and that will be ready when my new glasses was ready.
