Regional Mapping Grant

Does anyone have a feel for if a regional grant for purchasing mapping software/hardware would fly? There are about 13 FDs in our county, and I'm pretty sure they will all "buy-in" to the program. We're all using the same mapping system now, but it's out of date and the company went out of business. I'm thinking about applying for this on the 2010 AFG.

Been done, actually did one this year to expand upon one that was awarded in 2007 for the initial setup. CA in fact.

What kinda of mapping system? used how? could you enlighten a fellow firefighter? Might be something my area could use.

Hardware was on the other app awarded before, putting MDTs up. Software and funding to do the inspections/preplanning to put into the MDTs was this one. Wasn't a GPS unit tracking system, just electronic preplans.

We're mostly looking for something that will help the apparatus get to the correct address. The dispatch goes out and gives us an address, we punch it into the laptop that's in the rig, and a map pops up that shows the parcels and where we're going. I know there are much more sophisticated systems out there that do all kinds of other things, but getting to the call is the main goal.

Do you know which system they ended up going with (that is, the one you helped with)?

Most anymore are hooked into dispatch so there's no having to punch addresses in.
