    Default Cairns Old Leathers question

    I was just wondering when cairns started putting the impact caps in the new yorkers? i want an older cairns new yorker but i want to make sure it still has the impact cap. Just was wondering if anyone new.Thanks.

    I can tell you they had them in 1989. Because a buddy of mine has an 89' N5A with the impact liner.

    Your best bet is to call Cairns. 1-877-MSA-FIRE They have a great customer service department who can tell you that type of info.

    My understanding is that the N5A has only an ABS liner (non-impact), but the N6A has an additional lexan impact liner. The N6A looks a bit taller on the cross section view found here:

    I believe Cairns began putting impact caps into their leathers circa 1985

    Yes, the N5A is a single layer impact liner and is therefore only OSHA approved. The N6A uses a dual layer impact liner and because of that, it can be ordered in an NFPA approved version.
