    Default Scott SEMS

Has anyone had any experience with the Scott SEMS and Packtracker?
    Likes?
    Dislikes?
    Something better out there?

I am exploring doing a regional grant with my immediate mutual aid departments.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. All if us are currently running with various Scott configurations. All through fire act grants over the years.

    Thanks

We have been using the Pactracker since 2008. Not a perfect system, but does an adequate job locating the activated PASS as long as its not in a concrete basement of a large building. Sometimes it take a while to narrow down the search area, but it all comes with training...training...training!

We have been using also since 2008. We really like the system and yes training is a must. Scott does really well to service their equipment. We haven't had any concrete issues during any of our training evalutions. Scott intgrates this tracking very well. If you like Scott, you should like this system. Make them come to a training session with you and demo the equipment, that is what sold us.

We saw a demostration of the SEMS unit. It will need some training for the operator of the console, but for the fire fighter nothing else than put the scba on, start airflow an voila.. Great unit by the way.

Any AFG grants awarded to upgrade currently owned SCBA's with Packtracker, or new SCBA's with packtracker included?

What exactly does this packtracker do? From what I am reading, does it locate and show where the firefighter is and how much air is left, and can you manually set off the pass device to alert firefighters?
Seems like MSA has something similar to this.
Drager and Sperian is supposed to have a system like this in later 2010.

Our new Scott packs have the packtracker system in them. It takes practice to get used to using it to find a firefighter. But using the packtracker, pass and tic together, it is much faster.

Packtracker to me is the same thing as an avalanche beacon. PASS goes off, triggers a radio beacon. Handheld directional receiver helps you narrow down the likely search area.

To train with it, we didn't want the firefighters to use the pass alarm to help them, so we put a pack in the station, in the dark. Then we add in about 5 or 6 old pass devices too, so there is lots of noise to help hide the scott pass alarm.
