Hello, I am currently in medic school and when I get my license I want to get my Firefighter 2 right away. I was wondering if anyone knows of any Chicago burbs that will allow you to join and sponsor you for a FF 2 academy. Preferably that run their own academy or participate in one that is 2 or 3 nights a week and maybe all day on the weekends. I live on my own and work full time, I cannot afford to attend a full time academy on my own.

Best bet is to get on a volunteer department, which will allow you to obtain your FF2. You have to be a member of a FD to become certified in Illinois (Per 31 IL Admin Code Chapter 1, Part 140.2).
