From what I can figure out, you are asking about Civil Service tests for firefighters positions.

I know of none, that an individual would take, that would be carte banc, or good for all areas that use or are Civil Service.

First of all, you would apply to the city and or county in which they are taking applications for firefighters. If it is a Civil Service govern agency then you would take the test when they say it will be given.

Either apply to the city, the county or jurisdiction....some may test for multiple jurisdictions within one test - but that would be specified.

If you are looking at a specific location/state, check that states' civil service website for announcements. Many allow you to subscribe to an email service notifying you of when new tests are scheduled.

For example - I just did a search for 'firefighter civil service exam' and found this right away - http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=aftermin...10ff&csid=Eoaf

keep applying and testing, do not hang your hat on one department or dream department

you never know about hiring freezes or cut backs now a days

also, other factors may bump you out even if they decide to look at you
