Am watching the pre-show, and they are talking about the death of the Georgian (former Russian) luger who was killed this morning while taking a test run.
Very sad beginning.........

That crash was incredible, he came off the turn to hard and hit the inside wall, was thrown, slid on the side of the track and hit a support pole dead on, no ricochet. You can tell he died instantly he was completely immobile.
They said I believe 11 lugers have already wrecked on this track.

I just read an article that says the wall will be raised, and some 'adjustments' will be made - AND that it iwas the result of driver error coming out of the turn.
I can't imagine the damage that was done to the body with that force of impct - almost 90 mph........

Definately one of the craziest things Ive seen, that tops the crash when the Ski Jumper crashed off of the ramp and tumbled 200 feet down the hill. Believe it was in the 80's, Also remember when the Downhill Skier went throught 3 retaining nets after a spill.

"We want to warn you that some of these scenes may be disturbing to some of our viewers", but lets run it over and over and over and over and over.
I was surprised at NBC for running it as much as they did.
Also, was that an EMT working on him without gloves?Steve Dragon

The video was gratuitious.
Seems like a design flaw, the track is way to fast.
Although, they were definitly pointing at the inexperience of the athlete.
Either way, tragic.I am now a past chief and the views, opinions, and comments are mine and mine alone. I do not speak for any department or in any official capacity. Although, they would be smart to listen to me.
