This administration is in so far over their heads it is not funny. I understand that info like this can be useful, but to put out an article like this is the method that they will detect an attack is ludicrous. And yes, the media is complicit in this sham as well.As the winter Olympics begin, the Department of Homeland Security has disclosed that it will be monitoring the comments and posts on websites and social media like Twitter for information on possible terror threats.

I never understood why we feel the need to publish our battle plans on the national news networks....

On the off chance some idiot was actually planning an attack on the olymics using twitter to communicate with fellow jihadis, they won't be anymore.Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.

That's a great point, but it doesn't stop there. I was watching a story this morning about the new offensive in Afghanistan. They were talking about how alot of the Taliban left town and headed into the mountains because NATO told them that the offensive was going to happen last week.

Was it during the initial actions in Iraq that the reporters that were part of the battle groups would go live on CNN with big maps saying "this is how we will attack....."?

I was a puppy when this happened but, we seem to have a history of this brainless behavior. Wasn't it McNamara that pretty much publicized the flight plans for bombing campaigns in Vietnam?

Better yet, they put out this report about monitering Twitter, but said they werent commiting enough resources to it.
"Hey guys were gonna watch this but only every few hours or so"
Pointless IMO.

It's just propaganda guys, can't you see it?
The general public thinks we have technology to do all kinds of stuff that is real. Let them think it....

From what I have seen it seems like they are not trying to prevent Terrorism by watching Twitter & Co.
It seemed like they were watching the social networks to monitor and see IF something has happened. Both man-made or natural.
Let's face it. If a bomb goes off Twitter willl know it before anybody else will."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -- Benjamin Franklin

I heard they were also monitoring porntube.com for any suspicious activity.
I am now a past chief and the views, opinions, and comments are mine and mine alone. I do not speak for any department or in any official capacity. Although, they would be smart to listen to me.

Yeah,Somalia.I know a guy who was there and his platoon Sergeant kept going through the ranks making sure everyone was on safe in order to keep a few newsies from getting blasted while being stupid.
Feel bad for the parents of those reporters. They have to admit that their kid was dumb enough to shine a light on troops landing while loaded for bear and got in their way in order to be first to report the story.

Whats the first rule of combat, when doing what should be an opposed (offensive) landing?
SHOOT into the bright light!
And anything to either side of it.

The Coast Guard has been operating "Big Tow" where they are boarding towboats on the Mississippi and other rivers to check compliance with obtaining TWIC cards(Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
In the early days, they were rousting people off watch out of their bunks and taking ashore anyone who didn't have their card yet, even if they had the paperwork showing that they had applied for the card and were waiting on it to be manufactured and issued.
Every few hundred miles,a different crew is boarding the vessels even if during the initial radio contact, the towboat Captain or Pilot tells them that they were checked as they passed Memphis,Helena,New Orleans and so forth and haven't added to the crew since.
They are doing a lot of effort for little gain,if you ask me.
