Thumbs up My EYES! My EYES! OOOOWWW

Bungy jumpers bare all for a good cause

The Daily News February 28, 2010

There was no shortage of bungy jumpers brave enough to bare all as people young and old lined up to take the plunge for a good cause in Nanaimo during the weekend.

The annual naked bungy jump at WildPlay's Bungy Zone raises money for the B.C. Schizophrenia Society.

The chance to strip down for charity draws hundreds of people each year and organizers said this year was no exception despite drizzly skies. It was a record Saturday with 125 jumps and the fundraiser continued yesterday. Organizers expect a monetary tally early this week.

Among the jumpers was Joshua Taggart, a university student in Oregon who on a whim with friends decided on a whirlwind road trip solely to experience the naked bungy jump.

"It was successful. I'm alive," joked Taggart, 27, after taking the plunge. "I've got class on Monday."

Naomi Lepan left Olympic madness in the Lower Mainland to take the naked plunge in Nanaimo with a group of friends.

The 22-year-old already had one bungy jump under her belt - albeit a clothed one.

"You don't really think about it," said Lepan. "It's a rush."

Proceeds will help the society work with family and friends affected by schizophrenia. Such support helps people like Tara Timmers, 34, who has taken her life back after being diagnosed with the brain disease at age 19.

I'll settle for just providing med support to such activities, thanks.

Oh, wow. Where do I start?

Is this some sort of gravity-powered, slinging-an-orange-in-a-sock alternative to Extenze? Will the women need a lift after this? What about implants? Reckon they burst out?

My gosh, who puts the harnesses on them? Are the harnesses sanitized after each use? Aren't there tangling issues for the men?

No hiding who craps themselves on the bungee this time. Do NOT stand below them.

Malahat....that has been going on for years even when I use to live in Vancouver. Nothing new, now they are just putting a new twist to fundraising.

Hey what the heck...just bungy jumping!

The naked part has been going on for "free" since I can remember, at least at the Nanaimo Bungee Jump. But this is the first for a fund raiser... as far as I am aware anyhow.

Need eye bleach for that one too. Personally, I've not been "exposed" to naked bungee or cliff jumping or other publically naked activities, and I'm thankful for that too.

You think you're scarred for life? Trying being a guy who hits the ocean sack-first. And you thought a belly-flop was bad.

    Gives new meaning to "Cannonball!"

Oh, Doug. There are too many places I can go with this one. Help me, internal censorship mechanism. Help me.

You know someone in a nudist colony is obese when they are standing in front of the tv camera in the "uniform of the day" and NOTHING has to be blurred out.
