Default Firefighter from N Ireland looking to march in NYC parade

    Hi All

I am a Firefighter from Northern Ireland and I will be in New York for the St Patrick's Day Parade this year. I am trying to find out if i can march in the parade? It would be an Honor if i could march in the parade along with my firefighter colleagues. I have searched some forums but it states you have to join a group that has already registered to march. I am unaware of anyone else coming from Northern Ireland. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    hey Chris,

Sorry Bro, we got hammered one year after letting New Orleans FF's march w/ us. They had a sign thanking us for helping out w/ Hurricaane Katrina and the Parade board was fuming about it.

Well i went to the step off location at 3:20 Pm On East 48th St where i met a few out of town firefighters. I was suprised that there was only a dozen or so there but i suppose it was quality not quanity.. We waited for about an hour and there was still no sign of us marching.
One of the firefighters had access to the line of march and checked how many bands had to go there was around 35 . We figured that it would be around 2 hours before we stepped off and decided to give it a miss for this year and hit the pub instead.

I marched with the London Fire Brigade Irish Society in 2005. I knew a few people quite high up in FDNY at the time and we got to march with the LFB Colours at the head of the parade of all non FDNY Fire Depts. We also met up with a few Brothers from Dublin who Marched, later on at the Armoury so Non US Fire Brigades can March in the NYC parade.

We had to get agreement through both Chief of Dept's offices, but that was around the issues of taking the LFB colours out of the UK and also parading them in the March. What a fantastic reception we got as well.

I am sure if you write to FDNY in good time next year you will get more positive direction and subsequent permission. This was always going to be a bit hit and miss on a forum?

    Good luck for next time.

Thanks for the information, I was happy to march at the end of the parade it was just the long delay that got us in the end. I heard that they were trying to reduce the size of the parade for next year. I will be attending next year and i will be prepared for any delays the next time.
