I'm sure this has been asked before, but what are some important information points to provide to get a grant for new SCBA's? This is the first time that I will be involved in the grant writing process. Are current SCBA's are 12-14 yrs old and we are having some consistent issues with them. Any help would be appreciated.

Points you'll want to address is the edition of the standard to which they were built, what kind of problems you're having with them, what you've done to try to alleviate those problems, and things like that.
If you'll PM me with an email address or post it, I'll be glad to send you a copy of the one I wrote for our department in '06 so you can see how I addressed some of those issues. I'm sure others will do the same if you ask nicely.

Make sure you explore the "upgrade" option to bring the SCBA up to the current standard as well. Some issues that will not make it a viable solution:
1) Typically, manufacturers will not upgrade SCBA more than 2 standards.
2) Not cost effective.
3) Upgrading not available. There are manufacturers that will not upgrade as they discontinued older SCBA by developing a new SCBA to meet the current standard.
Other points to bring up:
1) The lack of SCBA interoperability with mutual aid departments (if it exists).
2) SCBA cylinders are approaching their useful service life (15 years).
